Senate’s Gun Issues Special Committee 2016

September and October 2016: Senate’s Gun Issues Special Committee will hold public hearings in Greenville, Charleston, Hartsville and Columbia. The committee members are Senators Gerald Malloy (chairman), George E. “Chip” Campsen, III, Chauncey K. Gregory, Greg Hembree, and Marlon E. Kimpson. J. J. Gentry will serve as the staff attorney. The purpose of the public hearings is to receive testimony and input from the public regarding gun issues in South Carolina.

Greenville:  Thursday, September 15, 2016, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Greenville County Council Chambers, 301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC 29601
Please use entrance by the flagpole.  Once you enter, the Council Chambers is on the right.

Charleston:  Monday, October 3, 2016, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
College of Charleston, Stern Center Ballroom, 71 George Street, Charleston, SC 29424

Public garage parking can be found at The George St. Garage (located on St. Philip St. between George St. and Liberty St.) appears to be the closest garage to the Stern Center.

Hartsville:  Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Upon entering the main entrance on East College Avenue, there is a large parking lot to the right. When facing campus, the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center will be ahead on the right.

Columbia: Thursday, October 27, 2016, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Parking is available nearby.

Upon arrival to the hearing, there will be a sign-in sheet outside or just inside the room. On it, you will need to include your information and indicate whether you would like to provide testimony. Additionally, there will be a place for others attending to indicate that they would like to be added to the contact list for future hearing notices relating to this committee.

Once the hearing begins, the chairman will begin calling people forward to speak. Speakers will be called in the order of the sign-in sheet. Please do not walk up to the microphone before being called forward. Those intending to speak cannot sign up prior to arriving at the event.

Depending on the number of people that would like to provide testimony, there may be a limited amount of time for each speaker. You are welcome to provide written testimony to the committee, however, if you choose to do so, please bring at least six copies for the members and staff.
